Cafe au Lait Workshop Recap

In October, we hosted a workshop that was all about Cafe au Lait dahlias, the absolute queen of late summer and early fall arrangements. We started in the Cutting Garden talking about growing and harvesting tips, then moved into the studio for lots of time arranging with these beauties.

Jess Hunter was there to photograph all the magic, and as usual, she blew me away with her images.

I start all of our workshops by demonstrating techniques for arranging, then set everyone loose to create their own work of floral art. During this time, I float around the room answering questions, helping everyone with their arrangements, and making sure everyone is getting what they need from the experience. Keeping the workshops to a six person maximum ensures there is a lot of time for this personal attention, which I think is so crucial to learning.

It was amazing to see everyone's arrangements come together! They were all so beautiful, unique, and artful...

Erika and Dan at Woodland Meadow Farms

Erika and Dan were married in late August of last year, at Woodland Meadow Farms. The cafe au lait dahlias in our Cutting Garden were at their peak, and we arranged them with lots of woodsy and herbal elements to match the rustic surroundings. 

Long tables with loose branches and blooms woven through, gorgeous bouquets, sweet little flower crowns..... it was all so pretty.

C & J at The Sanctuary at Admiral

It is hard to choose a favorite out of all the beautiful weddings we did this year, but C & J's wedding at The Sanctuary at Admiral is certainly up there in the top three. Creamy neutrals against dark foliages with pops of rich reds and gold- the perfect palette for late autumn. It was one of the last weeks local dahlias were still available, and that made it all the more special. C & J are such sincere, true people, and it really felt like an honor to create these designs for their wedding. All of these gorgeous photographs were taken by the one and only Kirk Mastin.
